Herman and Grace Schweim's Daughter Hortense
Hortense was born on 31 December 1895 and lived with her parents for many years. After the death of her mother, Hortense lived with her father Herman at 306 Pennsylvania Avenue (1920 census) and at 22864 Poplar Beach (1930 census).
Marriage
She is married to Roland Treiber Lakey on 29 August 1935 and the couple lived with Herman at his house at 22864 Poplar Beach. They remained at this address until 1955, 10 years after her father's death in 1945. Hortense and Roland are listed as living at 22864 in the 1940 and 1950 census.
Roland T. Lakey joined Wayne University as an assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy in 1920. He became professor and director in 1925 and was named Dean of the College of Pharmacy in 1933. Lakey retired on his 70th birthday, June 30, 1953. From 1954-59 he served as Professor of Chemistry at Mercy College, Detroit.
The papers of Roland T. Lakey, dean emeritus of the College of Pharmacy, were placed in the Wayne State University Archives by Roland T. Lakey in November of 1974. The collection consists of nine manuscript boxes with lecture materials, correspondence, professional journal articles and association information.

Roland T. Lakey purchased lot 27 and part of lot 26 from Anna L. Schweim on June 6, 1936 for $1. (Macomb County Register of Deeds document #19400012279 Liber 00407 Page 0105 and 0106) This is the site of the home at 28126 Jefferson where Margaret Roberts lived in the 1940 and 1950 census.
Hortense owned 22864 Poplar Beach in 1942 when she purchased it for $1 from her father Herman (Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds document #19420023985, Liber 00500, Page 0298, 0299).
Hortense sold 22864 to William Waldner in 1955. She and Roland had built a new house at 22824 Poplar Beach. Records show their residence as 22824 in 1953.
Interestingly, the Waldner family resided at 22838 Poplar Beach. The 1940 census states that Charles and Delia Waldner lived with daughter Mary Lou and son William (age 11). William lived at 22864 from 1955 until the home is sold to George and Genevieve Prentice on July 22, 1974.
Roland Lakey died at 103 years of age on 7 July 1986. Hortense Lakey died at 94 years of age on 23 September 1990 at Cottage Hospital in Grosse Pointe Farms. (Death certificate found in document 1993B937621 at Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds.)
